Operator carefully handling a blue printing plate

Simple handling habits can protect imaging surfaces, reduce avoidable damage and make plate-room work more consistent.

Protect the surface

Handle plates with clean, dry hands or suitable gloves and avoid contact with the imaging surface wherever possible. Small scratches, pressure marks and contamination can affect the result when a plate reaches the press.

Control the environment

Store plates flat in their original packaging, away from excess heat, moisture and unintended light exposure. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for the specific plate and allow materials to adjust to the plate-room environment before use when required.

Build a repeatable routine

Clearly label opened packs, rotate stock and keep the path from storage to imaging uncluttered. A simple checklist helps every operator follow the same process and makes the source of a handling issue easier to identify.
